Abecca has been manufacturing since 1952, starting with hard-wearing canvas products. Over the decades that expertise moved into healthcare, where we developed specialist products such as radiology positioning supports, built to clinical standards and designed around the needs of patients and staff.
That healthcare work brought us into contact with care facilities facing a different problem: furniture that was being broken, thrown and turned into a hazard. Rooms were damaged, safety mesh breached and staff injured.
In 2015 we set out to solve it. Rather than adapt ordinary furniture, we started from the ground up, developing solid foam furniture with no internal frame, no metal or wooden components and no exposed fixings, tested to international fire and durability standards.
Today Abecca supplies mental health, corrections, youth justice, hospital and aged care facilities across New Zealand, Australia and beyond. Because every piece is made in our own factory, we can refine details, adapt designs and respond to feedback in ways that resellers can’t. Many of our products have been shaped directly by the facilities that use them.
