For over 70 years, Abecca Design has been solving a problem most furniture manufacturers never have to think about: how do you create furniture that’s genuinely safe for the people who need it most, without making a space feel institutional?
Every range we make starts from the same non-negotiable: no exposed wood, no metal, no hardened components. From there, Armadillo®, Eagle™, and Hawk™ each take a different approach to protection, performance, and price, built for the different risk levels, budgets, and settings you’re working with across a facility.
That’s deliberate. A seclusion room and a staff lounge don’t need the same furniture, and specifying one solution for an entire building usually means over-engineering some spaces and under-protecting others. Our three ranges are designed to work together, so you can specify the right level of protection room by room, and know that whatever you choose, it meets the same standard for what it leaves out.

We felt these attributes perfectly described our safe furniture range, lightweight, tenacious, and durable, providing no risk to service users or staff within any correctional or special care environment. With Abecca’s Hawk™ safe furniture occupying the entire youth justice space in New Zealand (because it’s the only furniture that works) we know and completely understand..
