Corrections environments place the most demanding requirements on furniture of any setting. Furniture must resist misuse and mishandling. It must significantly reduce ligature risk across every surface and profile. It must withstand rigorous cleaning. And it must do all of this across years of continuous use in environments that test everything.
Abecca has supplied corrections facilities across New Zealand and Australia for many years, and our furniture is now in use in 95% of New Zealand prisons. We understand the operational, clinical and procurement requirements of corrections environments, and we manufacture specifically to meet them.
Our furniture is built from solid foam with no metal components and no wooden frames. No joints to work loose. No fixings to fail. No hard edges or exposed components. Anti-ligature by construction, not by modification.
Built to the standards corrections facilities require
All Abecca furniture meets BS 5852: 2006 and BS7177: 2008 fire retardancy standards, as specified by NZ Corrections and referenced in Australian corrections tender documentation. Our mattress range additionally meets BS7177: 2008 Crib 7 for high-risk sleeping environments. Fire certification available on request.
Engineered to help reduce harm
Solid foam construction gives every piece a substantial, stable feel: single chairs weigh between 16 and 21 kilograms, couches exceed 30 kilograms and tables start at 25 kilograms.
