Abecca Design Achieves ISO 9001, 45001 and 14001 Certification

For over 70 years, Abecca Design has built furniture for some of the most demanding environments in healthcare and justice: mental health facilities, corrections centres, youth justice settings and aged care. That work has always rested on a simple commitment: build it properly, test it thoroughly, and stand behind it. We’re proud to share that this commitment has now been formally recognised through three internationally recognised certifications: ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management), and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management).

What these certifications mean

Each standard covers a different part of how we operate, but together they reflect a single underlying approach: doing things consistently, safely and responsibly, with clear processes that hold up to independent scrutiny.

ISO 9001 confirms that our quality management systems meet international benchmarks. From raw materials through to final inspection, every Armadillo, Eagle and Hawk product moves through a documented, repeatable process designed to deliver consistent outcomes, batch after batch.

ISO 45001 recognises our commitment to the health and safety of our people. Manufacturing furniture for high-risk environments requires precision and care, and that same standard of care extends to the team building it, on our factory floors in both New Zealand and Australia.

ISO 14001 reflects our approach to environmental responsibility: how we manage materials, waste and resource use across our manufacturing operations, with a framework for continuous improvement over time.

Why it matters to the people who specify our furniture

For the clinicians, facility managers and procurement teams who choose Abecca furniture, certification isn’t just a credential. It’s independent verification of the things you already need to know before you commit to a supplier: that our processes are consistent, that our people are looked after, and that we manage our operations responsibly. For organisations working through tender requirements or governance frameworks of their own, this gives you something concrete to point to.

It also reflects how we want to keep operating. As a fourth-generation, family-owned manufacturer, the standards we hold ourselves to today are the foundation for the next 70 years of the business, not a one-off milestone.

What doesn’t change

This certification formalises what’s already at the core of how Abecca operates: solid foam construction tested to BS 5852:2006 and BS 7177:2008, LimberShield® proprietary finish, and furniture engineered specifically for anti-ligature, secure and therapeutic environments. What changes is that this is now independently verified, audited and ongoing.

If you’d like to know more about our quality, safety or environmental processes, our team is always happy to talk it through.

Not the only option. Just the best one.
